Mrs. H. M.. Campbell • Hawke's Bay) is visiting the South .Island. Eight purebred Persian kittens have been presented to the Red Cross Society (Cbristchurch) by Mrs. Bruges, of Cashmere, Hills. They are to be sold for the'benefit of the funds. The dance for soldiers which was held in the Town Hail on Saturday evening by the Mayor's entertainment committee was attended by a larger number of soldiers than usual,' and was very successful in every way. The Trentham Band, which supplied music i'or_ dancing, was entertained by the ladies' committee at tea., the committee as usual being in charge of the supper arrangements also. The Mayor (Mr J. P.' Luke) and some'of the gentlemen of the committee were present during the greater part of the evening.
-Arrangements are practically completed for Misjs Fanny Durack, champion swimrcer of • Australia, to visit America, and compete in a series of carnivals, which will' be arranged in various parts of the great Republic.
