Entries close on February 14 for Cooper's "Keduce Cost of Living" prizes, which are being offered to the owner of the neatest and best small vegetable garden. Anyone may compete who holds an acknowledgment certifying that they have purchased 2s. 6d. (or more) worth of Cooper's seedß between June 1, 1917, and October 1, 1917. The gardens will be judged by personal inspection in the month of February and (or) March by a competent judge appointed by ns, whose decision will be final. This competition is to encourage small gardeners to male the utmost use of their ground, and therefore only those who do not cmnloy a gardener may compete. The size of the garden is no object. Even if thr> garden be only; the size of an ordinary back garden, it will have ns good a chance as a larger one. The quality of the contents and neatness shall li" deemed the chief merits. This enmnelition is limited to the town ol Wellington and immediate surroundings, including Petone, Lower Tfutt. and Maimwatu Line up as far as Johnsonvillc. Through the courtesy of tho New Zealand Asriciiltural Department a practical field demonstration of the Emerson tractor will he given at Wcreroa Experimental Farm (Levin) on February 14. This demonstration is for the express purpose of showing Now Zealand farmers and aerimilturists a vital point in low cost,.field production through the medium of the Emerson (light farm kerosene oil) tractor.
