TROTTING
HOUSE AND OWNER DISQUALIFIED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Chrlstohuroh, February 8. At a meeting of the Board of tho Metropolitan Trotting Association to-day the matter of the ownership of the m™ Syn was referred back to tho Auckland 1 rotting Club for decision. „ ~ . if was decided to disqualify J. J. Goto, of Southland, and the horse bt. Qnentin. othenviso Shrapnel, for threo years be, cause the, horse had heen regis ercd in two names. In a letter read at *o mcetoE. flnHer who raceß as 0. Joyce, expressed re| ct'for the oflence, and gave as his reason for registering the horse under two names that'it was his desire to nuslea 1 the ncrson from whom he purchased St. Q,°enS as he had been given_ to under stand that that person was going to lmvn a plunge on the horse.
NOTES AND COMMENTS
fBY GIiEKOOE.I ,The annual meeting of tho To Kuiti Kapiuir Olub'will tike place to-day. Xtovcrfy Bay Meeting wUI taki place to-day. After his convinoinß win on Thursday at the Gisbomo Mooting, -tliu B bretaoL gelding Kohinahina wiII -probably start a good. favourite ui e Hurdle iUce, which, is run.oyer a milt and a half, i distance that suits the: grey gelding to a nicety. Don and a o fresh, competitor that Ko'iinahina, did not- meet on Thursday. For his win on Thursday, Otaia.has been raised 131b. in tho Stewards . Handicap to-day, a)l d he now meets Gaziquc on 101b. worßO termß. This should bring tho pair together, while a newcomer ill tno race, in tho three-year-old Vagabond, 9s . lib., cannot be left out of .consideratwih After his good showing/behind Demos at Trentham, baclters may not look.further than War March in tho Maiden Scurry, four furlongs and a half. Lady Kilworth. Pao. and Shicla, all of whom can begin quickly, are ikcly to bo a source of troublo to tho others in tho Telephone Handicap nvo. furlongs Cleft won the big handicap at Gisborno so easily that, ho is sure to Have.many friendß in the Turanga Stakes to-day. Desert Gold was expected to lcano hydncy for Melbourne lato laßt week. 'Referring to her flfst appearauco on tho tracks, a writer in tho "Daily Telegraph Baya:Deserti Gold made her acquaintance witn the Randwick training grounds -yesterday morning (January 29), and pottered about, which was nil that was oipcctcd of her, U is not likely that sha will do much in tho way of galloping, beyond, perhaps, a pipe-opener- or two, before leaving lor Melbourne. That Desert Gold. created a favourable impression goes without saying. Her record is sufficient to indicate that she is a "good sort." and this fino performer conveyed tho impresßlon of being able to look after herself in a race, and come well out of a scrum. Standing about 15.2, Desert Gold does not lack size, and as she is not wanting in thoao essentials, substance, quality, and driving power, it is easy to understand that she is a galloper of a high order. Apparently Desert Gold is tho. possessor of a contented disposition, and this was probably no 6mall factov in enabling, her to get through such a heavy programme. _ After being out of form for a long time, the Gazeley gelding Goyciuin showed up in a very favourable light by capturing a double at tho Taranaki Meeting. Therewas considerable merit in his Hying Handicap viotory, as amougßt those he defeated wero such well-known sprinters as Housewife Koesian. and Nystad. While iu Hawke's Bay recently Mr. E. Short purchased from Mrs. M. A. l'erry a yearling full-brother to Elocution (Demosthenes-Ilangiao) and a yearling full-brother to Simonides (DemosthenesGold Thread). Both juveniles show quality, and should pay their way on the turf. At tho Takapuna and Gisborne Meet, ings, the imported Cynic shaped very badly, -and unless ho shows improved form to-day Mr. de Lautour may reconsider hid intention to send him to Australia to race. Oynio is bred well enough to win arty race. He is by Henry the Pirst (a son of Melton, winner of £12,000 in stakes), from Oynane, by Cyllene, from Suntai, by Donovan, from Distant Short, by Hermit. As a throe-year-old Cynic scored four wins iu Ireland at minor meetings. The most interesting point, about theso victories in an Australian Cup connection is that the distances ranged from cno mile and a quarter to two miles.
George Jones, trainer of Sasanof,, Sweet Oorn, and Blended, has returned to tho Dominion. Ho is recovering from tho cfteots of the operation for appendicitis which necessitated his remaining in Sydney for somo little time.. W. Bell is to have the mount on Multicipal in the Dunedin Cup. When Devotion aud Probation race at Wingatui noxt week it will bo the flrbt tinio that Mr. Bidwill's colours have boon seen at a Dunedin Meeting. Of the two mares Probation looks the more likely to piok up a race. She is meeting a weaker held than Devotion is pitted against.
Black All is an acceptor in two events at tho Poverty Bay Meeting to-day, hut as the stable has also Cleft and I'ursu. filler engaged in the Turanga Stakes, Black All will probably be started in tho Welter Handicap. Pinmark, who accounted for Koesian in the Fourth Taranaki Stakes on Thursday, has raoed very consistenty this season. Ho oponed his two-year-old campaign at Masterton and finished third to Ooolpan and Chimera in 'tho Trial Stakes .His next appoaranco was in tho Wcllealcy Stakes at Trcntham, for which he started seoond favourite, but ho was boaten rather easily by an outsider in Informal, who nfterwards scored in the A.R.O. Welcoma Stakes. Pinmark's next engagement was at Tticcarton in tho Welcome Stakes, and again ho was in tho money, finishing third to 80-Peep and Pontoon. On tho third day of the same meeting he was beaten in tho Spring Nursery Handioap by Demagogue. Finland's son next started in tho Twelfth Fcilding Stakos, but finished out of a plate. Lingorie, Aero, and Birkonvalo being ahead of him. It is interesting to noto that two-year-olds have only won tho Fcilding Stakes four tirooß out of twelve races. Finmark filled second place in the O.N. Foal Stakes, and third lilacc in the Royal Stakes (tho latter race won bv Ifymestra) at tho A.R.O. Summer Meeting. His next race in public was the Wellington Stakes, which ho won— his first, win during the season. Then followed the Taranaki Stakes. Now that Finmark has shown winning form ho may repeat tho performance of his full-brother (Estland) of winning throughout tho antumn. Finmark has an engagement at the Egmont Meeting in tho Egmont Btakos, blz i furlongs, to bo decided next week,
