FIRES

. o At 1.38 a.m. yesterday the Fire Brigade received a call-to 14 Bay Road, Kilbirnic, where a fire had broken out in a six-roomed one-story house, owned and occupied by Mr. Harold Kevey. The back portion of the dwelling and the contents were rather badly dam•pned The building was insured in the State Office for £525, and the insurance on the contents was £150, in the South British Office. The origin of the outbreak is unknown. A firo at South Makara.at one o'clock on Thursday morning totally destroyed a six-roomed, two-storied hmiso owned l»v Mrs. A. Prondovilk of Knrori, and occupied by Mr. "Woods, dairy farmer. The fire ran through the house very rapidly, and the occimants, including pomo children, had difficulty in getting clear, having to leave the house m their nieht attire. The building was insured in the New Zealand Office for £200. '
