RED CROSS WORK
SOCIETY'S ANNUAL MEETING. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchuroh, February 8. The second annual meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Branch of the British lied Cross Society and Order of St. John was held to-day. The Governor-General presided. His Excellency presented a roport on the work proposed in connection with the functional treatment of returned soldiers, and after a discussion the- following resolution was unanimously carried:— "That this council approves of the establishment of workshops and recreation rooms for the functional treatmont of soldiers, and authorises expenditure for that- purpose to the extent of £200 to meet the present requirements, such cost to he shared equally by the four centres."
It was pointed out that the Bed Cross Inquiry üßroau was performing a large work in making inquiries for missing and wounded soldiers, and it was found that the inquiries were fairly evenly distributed over the whole Dominion, and it was resolved that each of the four centres should contribute onefourth of the total expenses which are estimated at £250 per annum. In regard to Bed Cross food comforts the desirability was of shipping foodstuffs to London in view of the present food shortage, and it Was. resolved that if it bo found necessary after inquiry the power be left with the New Zealand Executive to arrango for the four centres to combine in sending food comforts to England for sick and wounded soldiers on returning liners and transports.
