.A short silting'of tho Magistrate's ■ Court was held yesterday. Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided. For insobriety, oho first offender was fined 205., in default 24 hours' imprisonment, and two others were convicted and''discharged. AVilliam 'Howard Booth, alias 11. K. Gray, was charged that tin December 19, 1917, at Newcastle, New South AValos,. by.means of false, pretences.(to wit, a valueless cheque) be obtained from Thomas Samuel Pctherbridgo tho sum of ;C1 195,; also that on December 24, 1917, at Sydney, ho committed theft of 61 dozen reels of white cotton twino, valued, at £76 165., the property of Franklin. Hay wood and another. Tho first charge was withdrawn, 'and re-, specting tho. second chargo an extradition order was made, and accused is to be returned to Sydney under police escort. "" "' " '■'
