HOW THE STRIKE AFFECTED LABOUR IN. NEW SOUTH "WALES. (Rec. February 6,11.45 p.m.) Sydney, February 6. Official: A report by the UnderSecretary of Labour estimates that the late strike cost the community up to nine million sterling. Altogether 73,500 employees actively participated in the trouble, forfeiting £1,700,000 in wages, besides the large lrambeis indirectly affected. Tho direct cost to the Government, of expedients for counteracting the effects of the strike was £98,000, besides tho provision .of £20,000 for the relief of strike distress.
