The balance-sheet, of the New Zealand Insurance Company for the year ended November 30. 1917. shows a. not income from premiums, interest. 5 and rents of £1,207,119. The available balance on the year's transo/Mbi™. including the balance brought forward from the previous year, amounts to £160.!74, from which is deducted a dividend of £26.250, paid* in A.ugust iasi. The directors recommend tile niacins', of £60,000 to the reserve fund from the balance' of £73.924; and they, recommend i'ne.payment of a dividend at the rate of 4s. per share, and of a bonus of sixpence per share, absorbing £53,750. making Bs. per share for the year, and leavine a nc-t balanre of £40,174 to he carried forward. Paid-up capital, reserves, and undivided profit amount, to £1,360,194 after providing for the dividend recommended. THE METAL MARKETS. (Bee. February 5. 11.5 n.m.) London, February 4. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report;-At Tiranmea, on Monday, we had a large yarding of sheep, which we submitted to a- very fair attendance. Competition for wethers was keen, but other classes were not much in demand.. Tho mine manager reports for the week to February 2:—"North of main crosscut: Tho crosscut in the footwall was advanced 145 feet through quartz stringers. This haß been stopptd temporarily, and wc started again following tho reef track and advanced 2 feet. In tho south end on# atope is going on the main reef; the quartz ia well mineralised. Three atopes are going on the H.W. reef, which is rather small at praent. We have started to extend tile stopes north from the drive on the main reef. The reef is composed of pug and gritty quartz showing a fair amount of mineral." In these days when labour is so difficult to procure, efficiency in tho equip, ment of the cheese factory is all important.
