HIGH COMMISSIONER'S MARKET REPORT
I he Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram, dated London, February 2, from the High' Commissioner for New Zealand. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on soot):— Meat.—Market remains unchanged. All descriptions in active demand with short .supplies selling at maximum prices. Now Zealnnd lamb, limited amount has been released by order of the Government at UJd. Argentine beef, no sup-. J-plies available. Frozen American beef being offered in the market by order of the Government at maximum prices, llid. and ojid. Butter and Cheese.—No change sinco last report; small supply continues in active demand at maximum prices. Hemp.—Manila hemp, nothing fresh here. Reports indicate that United i States Government will take control of ' purchase and distribution; no definite information available. Output, third week in January, 19,000 bales. ' New Zealand hemp, business is dull, and eonfined. to parcels already shipped. Buyers not disposed to go on at present prives in view of uncertain delivery. Wheat and Oats.—Market very quiet; no change in prices. WHOLESALE PRODUCE PRICES Messrs. Laery and Co., Ltd., Allen Street, report wholesale prices as follow.:—Maize, feed, 7s. 3d. per bushel; crushed maize, 7s. 6d. per bushel; oats, feed, 4s. 6d. to. 4s. Bd. per bushel; chaff, oatsheaf, i! 8 10s. to /C 8 los. per ton, sacks in; 'flour, in sacks. ,£IG 10s. per ton; oatmeal, 2o's, 103. to <£22. Fowls, is. to (is. per pair; ducks, ss. to Bs. per pair. Butter, pats, Is. to Is. 2d.; butter, prime bulk, Is. id. to Is. 2d. per lb.; eggs, fresh, Is. 6d. to Is. Bd. per dozen; turkeys (dead weight), Is. to is. 4d. per lb.; dressed pork, choice, 70's to 90's, B|d. per lb., 90's to 100's 8d; per lb.; bacon pigs, choice, 7d. to Bd. per lb.; choppers, heavy, sd. to 6d. per lb. Beeswax, Is. 9d. Bacon, all best factory, sides Is. 2d. per lb., rolls Is. 3d. per lb., hams Is. 3d. per lb., shoulders Is. per lb.; cheese, factory, medium, lOd. per lb. Linseed meal, Meggitt's, 100's, JEI2 10s. per ton; whole linseed, 235. per cwt.; onions, J3B 10s. per ton; potatoes, white .-£5 to £1 per ton, red M to .£5 per ton; molasses, casks, 325.
