THE INUNDATIONS IN QUEENSLAND
PESTILENCE FEARED AT MACKAY (Rec. February 3, 5.5 p.m.) Brisbane, February 2. Owing to the insanitary conditions resulting from the floods, pestilence is feared at Mackay. Every building along the waterfront is damaged almost beyond repair. Every vessel in the river at the time of tho tidal wave, excepting one, was either wrecked or carried o,ver the banks and deposited in the scrub. The water is full .of dead animals 'and birds, and tho stench is terrible. ■ . . Rookhampton is crowded with, refugees, whom the police are still bringing in or relieving.—Press Assn. VIOLENT CYCLONIC STORM AT MELBOURNE BUILDINGS WRECKED. • (Rec. February 3, 5.5; p.m.)' Melbourne, February 2. A violent cyclonic storm on Saturday afternoon did much damage to the city and suburbs. A inumher .of buildings were wrecked, and many were unroofed. A boy was killed.by the collapse of a tea-room at Brighton." Another was drowned at St. Elda.—Press Assn.
