GREEKS WELCOME NEW FRENCH COMMANDER (Rec. February 1, 5.5 p.m.) Athens, January 31. Speaking at a banquet to General Guillaumat (the new French Commander in Macedonia). M. Yenizelos, the Greek referred to the baseless and absurd enemy rumours that the Balkan front was to be abandoned or weakened. General Guillaumat's appointment proved the. growing importance attached by the Entente Powers to the Balkan front, which, be- j sides being a solid barrier to inyasion, •! would later serve as a starting point for vigorous action, in 1 which the Hellenic Army would share.
