The opening event ie tho Trial Stakes, which will start at 1 p.m. Owners of trotting horses should take notice that entries for. all events at the Wanganui Meeting close with Secretary S. W. Moliltt at 9 o'clock to-night. Mr. J. G. Duncan, who imported several yearlings from England last. eeaeon, is disposing of them by degrees. The Palmerston North sportsman, Mr. A. J. 'toward, purchased the Bona Rosa—Spring Rose ally, Mr. J. J. Oorry, of Blenheim, has secured a fllly by Magic, from Parnassia. A Lonawand—Mary Tavey colt has gone to New Plymouth, and will carry the colours of Mr. P. M. Mills. The Gisborne owner, Mr. •(!. J. Parker, has secured a fllly by Bona Rosa from The Gleaner. Mr. Hugo Friedlander gots the ForfarehireClaire de Beaupre filly, while Mr. Thoe. Duncan , has taken the Mavjay-Disdaiu-ful colt. There seems to be an impression abroad that the Nanna inquiry stands adjourned. This is not so. Tho matter is finally dealt with, and tho rider's bona fidee have been established to tho satisfaction of the Judicial Committee of the Wellington Racing The local horseman Ashley Reed, who was drawn in the last military ballot, has been classified 01, which means that ho will havo to undergo a period of training at Featherston. , Jockey W. Ryan was taken ill during the Takapuna Meeting, and could not ride on the second day. Sometime back Ryan underwent a serious operation, and be has not been well since. Marc Anttmy, who went "rone »p.r winning a race at the Southland Meeting, is now being trained on the old Hoathcoto course, and his daily work includes plenty of swimming exercise. Snub's victory in. the Pahiatua Handicap yesterday wan the first he has secured since Mr. W. R. Kemball purchased him. Hie Martian gelding was well suited by the small field, as he will not stand b»ing crowded in a race. Margerino, who will be ridden by W. Bush, her successful pilot at Wingatui on Boxing Day, is likely to bo the popular selection for the Midsummer Handicap at Riccarton on Saturday. The progeny of Spalpeen made a great showing on the two days of the Takapuna Jockey Club's Meeting. Ditto and Fionnuala each captured a double, and MunBtcr was another winner for Trim, besides being third, while. Glendalough secured 'ii second and a third. It is reported from Sydney that the Calibre gelding, Silent Way, has been put into training again after a, lengthy spell. Mr. ,T. 0. N. Origg's cast-off is a good, but unlucky, horse as far as his Australian performances £0, as he has won recognition from tho handicappers without actually getting his head in front at the judge's box. Good reports are to hand from New Plymouth of the good work being done over the schoolinc fences by Fntana.. The chestnut gelding in to make his first public appearance over fences at. the coming Taranaki. Meeting, bnt so far no rider hns been secured for him.
