Reports regarding Germany, coming' irough from Switzerland, are /to the Sect that there is no petrol shortage • >r army use, but the Jack of rubber . causing Berious trouble. A proiinent member of the Swiss nlotor :'nustry, who has had opportunities of ravelling in Germany on many ocea!ons since the war, declares vhat ynthotic rubber has been more or less E a failure. Until America came >to the war all kinds of methods were eviscd to smuggle rubb-Gr into Gerlany, and the attempts were so snejssful that at least all army staff irs could run on pneumatic tyres, f late the situation has been much iss favourable, no rubber being availble for motor truoks, and while offiers' staff cars are still running en peumatic tyres, the stock is limited nd every possible form of economy is cercised. With wood ami steel tyres i place of rubber, it has been ncces,»ry to reduce the speed in all rucks which could bo run at 12 m.p.h. i the rubber days havo been cut down o 10, 8, or oven 5 m.p.h. Tlje Geroan Army transport service has not een disorganised, but it has been ondered less efficient by reason iif tho 'reat reduction in speed. GET A BETTER PLATE!
