M'Clure) and two members of tho Lan.l Board visited Masterton on W.cdnesdav to inspect tho Waipoua River, and consider what steps, if any, are 'necessary to prevent erosions affect- ■ ing an education reserve vested in tho board. , . Very few men are at present seeking employment'in the Wairarapa. The Masterton agent of tho Labour Department reports that thoro is not much demand for labour just now. A demand for Polled Angus cattle has sprung up among settlers in tho Wairarapa. This class of cattle is said to be well adapted to tho district. ' , Accounts totalling £2302 wore paused for payment iit a meeting of the Central Committor of the AVairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. Several ladies from the AVairarapa Lady Liverpool' Equipment Committee proceeded to Trentham yesterday to present gift parcels to AVairarapa soldiers. A number of Masterton lads are at present engaged gathering cocksfoot grass-seed from vacant reserves and allotments.
Tho cost of Urn new ferro-concrete bridge over the Waingawa, River, to. tho south of Masterton, is estimated at £11,892. ' Members of the Masterton Girls':.H«d Cross Brigade have been actively canvassing the country districts for articles suitable for surnriso packets. A slight shock of earthquake was felt in M?sterton on Tuesday morning.
