Representatives of tlm Canterbury and West Coast Chambers of Commerce and local bodies visited Otira to-day to makp an inspection of the Arthur's Pass tunnel works, which when completed will give direct railway communication between the two provinces. iAt present only 113 chains separate 'he two headings. At a conference this evening a resolution was carried expressing appreciation of the manner in which the work ivas being prosecuted in the face of the difficulties presenting themselves in these distressing tfmes, and in view of the national importance of the tunnel urging its completion with all possible speed.
