AN INTERESTING EXHIBIT
FOR DOMINION MUSEUM. A valuable and very interesting trophy has been procured for the Dominion Museum through the agency of Mr. D. C. Bates. It is a cross of the Legion of Honour of Napoleon the First, the great Napoleon. Special interest will attach to the exhibit now, in view of tho fact that some of our officers have been awarded the cross in this war. Tho trophy was, through Mr. Bates, offered for sale to the museum by tho owner, Mr, Silverstone, of Vivian. Street, and the Minister of Internal Affairs has approved of the purchase. The cross is a beautiful piece of workmanship in silver and gold and enamel. It is a five-pointed cross or star, with a circlet of bays in fine green enamel on silver interlaced. In the centre is a medallion bearing on tho obverse side the head of the first Emperor, surrounded with the inscription on blue enamel: "Napoleon Empereur des Francais," and on the reverse side an eagle, with tho inscrintion: "Honneiir et I'atrie." The whole is surmounted bv a crown fnehioned in most complete detail, and the cross is mounted with a scarlet riband. Tho alleged history of this particular decoration—and there is no reason to doubt tho accuracy of the history—is that it was purchased by one Cs>"tain Anderton from the Comptessc do Beauregard, mistress of Napoleon 111.
