Simpson, of Levin, has joined the staff of Messrs. Abrahamand Williams, and will take up his , duties on the Te Kuiti branch. The Senate of the N.Z. University have appointed Mr. W. A. Stout, 8.A., LL.B., and Mr. W. Macalister, 8.A., LL.B., Crown {solicitors, nominees for the LL.B. degree in the subjects of ' Procedure and Evidence respectively. Mr. T. G. Hirst, manager of the Bank of Australasia at New Plymouth, has received notice of his transfer to Invercargill. Constable Ferguson, of Masterton," has been transferred to the, Waldegravo Struct Station :\t I'almefston. Ho will succeed Constable Dunphy, who has been transferred to Ashhurst. Advico received from Melbourne announces the death, at tho age of '11, of Mr. Harold Lyon, (second son of the' late Mr. H. M. Lyon, of Wellington.. The late Mr. Lyon, who was fi native of Wellington, completed his education at Wellington College. Ho leaves a. widow "and a son, .the latter being eight years of age. Mr. C. R. Corfe, formerly accountant, of tho New Plymouth branch of the Hank of New South Wales, and for some years stationed in Wanganni, js : retiring on pension after more than 3G years' service with the bank. The staff of the Department of Labour met together yesterday to say; good-bye to Mr. W. H. Hagger Conciliation Commissioner, who left last nio-ht to take up his new duties at Christchurch. Newton, the new Conciliation Commissioner, was also congratulated on his appointment' to succeed Mr. Hagger. The death is announced at Melbourne of Sir Samuel Peihebndge, Commissioner of the Pacific Islands. Sir Samuel, who was appointed Commissioner on the interim control ot New Guinea being taken over by Australia, was in his 56th year. He entered tho public service of Queensland in 1876, was chief clerk of the Commonwealth Defence Department 1111901 and in 1910 became secretary ot the Department. Ho was connected with the Queensland Navy for twelve years as sub-lieutenant, lieutenant, and commander. A Press Association telegram states that Mr. David Gardner, proprietor ot the "Rotorna Chronicle, is dead, aged 6VV He had been suffering from asthma, and had a seizure on Monday night, and died at 6 o'clock yesterday morning.
