FROM PRISON IN GERMANY
UKI.KASKI) NKW '/.EALANMRS AT BERNE. (Roe. January 28, 8.30 ';p.m.) London, January 27. Now Zealand .soldiers from Germany are now interned in Switzerland. They spent much of their time at Dulmen. Two attempts at escape failed. Prisoners from the Allies were brutally treated. Many of our men were starved at Dulmon and wero in a pitiful condition. Threo camps, encli holding liino hundred men, wero attached to Burgsteinfurt. They consisted of underground dungeons in tho sand. In winter it was awful, while in summer the place toeined with lleas. One New Zealander spent eight months in one camp. Tho German non-commissioned officers treated tho prisoners well, but Hohonfurst, a similar camp, ivas a "hell upon earth." Ono of the Now Zealanders witnessed the Mannheim air raid. Though it failed it had a considerable effect on tiio people, and.no felt convinced that if tho raids wore continued drastically they would do much to haston tho end of the war.— Aus.-N.H.
