1 A POST OFFICE DESTROYED. The Fire Brigade received two calls yesterday.' The first was to 134 Vivian Streei, a two-story building, on the ground floor of which is a confectionery shop.The fire is thought to have been caused by the spontaneous ignition of benzine and polishing rags. Beforo it was extinguished it severely damaged the contents of the shop. The occupant, Mrs. J. Aitcheson, had' no insurance on the goods. The building is owned by Mr. Alex. Hopkirk, and covered by a policy of £1000 in the South British office. ' The second fire occurred in a fiveroomed house at 69 Devon Street, u originated in the back part, and did very considerable damage to the contents of the place. The usual occupants wero absent, and no particulars as to insurance, etc., were last night availablo. LUMSDEN "ioST OFFICE DESTROYED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Jnvarcargill, January 28. A fire broke out at 1.15 on Monday morning in stables behind the Elbow Hotel at Immsden. The Sames spread rapidlv and destroyed the Post Office, ' Griffith's draper's shop and Marshall' 3 butchery. Spark? lodged on the railway station several times, but the building escaped. The Elbow Hotel escaped with a scorching.
