AUSTRIAN STRIKES
ONLY A PRELIMINARY SKIRMISH IN GREAT LABOUR STRUGGLES (R'ec. January 2", 5.5 p.m.) Amsterdam, .January 25. Several speakers at a .prolonged meeting of workers in Vienna, representing all Austria, declared that the strikes were only a preliminary skirmish in great labour struggles. The censorship suppressed the strongest statements.—"The Times." THE TROUBUTSPREADING ' THE WORKERS' DEMANDS. Amsterdam, January 25. The renewal of the strikes in Vienna is reported. The Austrian workers demand peace, an eight-hour day, and the stoppage of all war industries. Forty per cent, of the Austro-Hun-garian strikers have not yet resumed work, and tho strikes continue in many of the industrial centres in Bohemia.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. (Rec. January 27, 5.5 p.m.) Berne, January 25. One hundred thousand workers ara on strike at .Prague. A Socialist split occurred at Vienna owing to the moderate leaders advising a resumption of work.—"Hie Times."
