At the meeting of the Otago Educa< lion Board to-day exception was taken jo the resolution carried at the recent meeting of the Educational Institute in Wellington urging the selection and appointment of teachers by the Department in Wellington. Several speakers condemned departmental methods and urged 'that the boards and the school committees, representing the parents, had a right to a voice in the appointment of teachers, alike in the interests of the teachers and of education. A resolution was passed sotting fortb that any curtailment of the powers of the boards and the committees in the appointment of teachers would he strongly resented, and it was decided to place the hoard's views before the Minister of Education.
