REGISTRATION OF ALIENS
CONSIDERABLE NUMBERS. ' The Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. G. W. Russell) stated, yesterday that the registration of aliens under the Act passed last session had been ■ going on satisfactorily, and that the , registration officers had the work well , in hand, although returns were still coming in. Up to and including Janu- ,• ary 21 a total of 4955 aliens had been registered. Following were the numbers and the countries of origin of th» aliens registered:— Austria, 1017; Germany, 481: Greece, 09; Italy, 182; France, 65; Norway, 229; Portugal, 3; Russia, 363: Snain, 29; Sweden, 300: Belgium, 104; Swit- , zerland, 81 ; other Europeans, 38; China, 1297;, Japan, 6; Syria, 104; Egypt, 2; other Africans, 3; Argentine, 7; Brazil, 2; Chile, I; United States, 286-
