AMENDMENT OF ARBITRATION ACT DESIRED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Waitara, January 23. A deputation of delegates from the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners of New Zealand interviewed the Minister of Labour last session concerning the decision of the Supremo Court in the Ohinemuri mining employees' casb. Mr. Jennings, M.P., who introduced tho deputation, bas received a reply that tho Secretary of Labour thinks it desirable that the Arbitration Act should be amonded tit an early date, to enable unions to make provision in their rules for benefits.. As a number of unions have already had provisions in force for years under tho impression that they woro valid, tho best course for the members, pending amendment of the Act, would bo to form themselvos into friendly societies for benefit purposes only, and apply to the Registrar of Friendly Societies for registration.
