PRICE OF SCHEELITE
AN INCREASE GRANTED
As far back as September, IS)!- , !, it was agreed between the minors of scheelite and the Government that the price should he Eos. per unit p«r ton of 65 per cent.,tungstic add delivered ex warehouse London or Liverpool, t'.nd this agreement expired in August, 1016. ' Petitions and representations have been made to Government, and tho Government in turn have made representations to the Imperial Government on the question of price, and it has been urged that an increase in price should be made because considerably higher prices were being paid for scheelite in other, countries and that tho price offered to New Zealand producers was too low to enable them to carry on tho business. The negotiations have been very much prowacted, and in November, 1917, the information received from the Imperial Government was that they were not prepared to increase the priee and that they would deprecate facilities being granted to New Zealand producers to export to other countries as desired by them. However, quite recently a cablegram has been received from the Secretary of State for the Colonies through* Hie Excellency tho GovernorGeneral that the Imperial Government are now prepared to increase the price of scheelite delivered ex warehouse, London or Liverpool, as from January 1, 1918, to 60s. per unit, for ore on basis of 65 per cent, tungstic acid, less cne per cent, brokerage, and to compensate New Zealand producers for increased freight, war risk, insurance, and charges estimated at 3s. lOd. per ■unit.
