THE MILK SUPPLY

g; r _I wo «ld suggest that the y.oonli! who are in such trouble over the milk question should ask Mr. Coleman Phillips, of Wairarana, what he thinks would he the result if the railway v. as run through by way of as he has so often advocated. Methmks there would he an ample supply of mills available for Wellington, and when that is so there, would not be much exploitation. Additional inspectors and "chokee" for persistent offoudors would probably indueo unscrupulous vendors to be' particular about the. oualitv of milk supplied. I read a good deal about coolins milk, but very l.'ttlo about aeration. Has this pone out ot date' I spanked cows when nutter was 6d. per lb. (and take it out m stores) for the greater part of the year, and when we got 3d. per gallon in cash from factories that was a splendid price. When the war is over and the price of butter-fat down to normal we will not have so much "cockiness" on the part of the producers, but now is their chance to score— iust as others are doing who have the chance. Even' union has been out for increases, and why not the dany farmers, as well as wharf labourers, carpenters, etc. Each blames tne increased cost of living or production, or both, and still increases it. And so WO world wags on.—l am, etc., PAYING FOR IT. January 22, 1918.
