PRICE FIXING
PROTEST BY VICTORIAN GROCERS The council of the Grocers' Association of Victoria at a mooting in Mclbourno last week unanimously agreed to tho following motions: — "That the Commonwealth Government's price-fixing arrangements in regard' to tho retail prices of groceries have become intolerable to the trade. "That it is impossible for an average grocer to observe lhc Government's fixed rates and remain solvent. "That our correspondenceand verbal applications for relief aro systematically ignored, and we desire through tho columns of tho Press to inform the public of the persecution the Federal Government is inflicting on the retail grocery trade. "That we believe that during war time price-fixing is necessary, and wo are not adverse to tho policy if carried out on equitable lines. "That Ve have offered tho Government every assistance, disclosed all working costs, profits, etc., verified on oath, and that we have received_ promises of relief from tho authorities, somo dating back two years, which aro nover given effect to. "That all grocers in tho metropolitan area be called together to decide what stops shall bo taken to preserve the solvency of the trade."
