HIGH COMMISSIONER'S MARKET REPORT
The Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram, dated London, I January 19, 1918, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand. (Note. — Quotations, unless otherwise 'specified, are average market prices on spot):—. Meat.—All descriptions of meat are in small supply. Demand is greater than the supply at maximum prices. By order of the Food Controller maximum prices of Home-killed mutton and English lambs have been raised to With reference to' my telegnm of December 29, imported'ofial maximum prices will be in force after next week.
Butter.—Very limited supply. Government has not distributed any further supplies. Cheese.—Active demand at; full prices on account of difficulty in obtaining supplies®* Hemp.—Manila and New Zealand hemp markets quiet and steady at maximum prices. Manila- output during two weeks ending' January 12, 39,000 bales. v _ Wheat. —Market quiet, small business doing. Official quotations are:— No. 2 Northern Manitoba and No. 2 Hard Winter, 765.; Australian, 795. 6d.
Oats—Market steady, fair business doing. No. 2 White Clipped American, 595. 3d. ......
