THE SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP

By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, January 21. Play for the singles championship in connection with the Dominion Bowling Tournament began thii' morning m line, but windy weather. The competition was played on nine greens. The following Wellington men won in the first roundlngram. (Wellington) and Houldsworth (Te Hiwi). The following lost in the first round:— M'Whannell (Hataitai), Price (Newtown), Fossette (Victoria). lu the second round, Houldsworth and Prince won their games, and M'Wltannoll, Crane, Ingram, and Fossette lost. ■ Tne position at the end of the day s play was:— , Section 1. —Smellie (Green Island) won all his games. Hotting (Morilington) and Barnes (Dunedin) also remain in. Section 2—Harraway (Dunedin) is unbeaten. Rawlinson (Dimedrn) and Henderson (Lyttelton) also remain in. Scction 3— Fraser (United), Lanigan (Auckland), and Sharp (Stratford) remain in. ~ , Section L—M'Curdy (St. Kilda) is unbeaten. Johnson (Dunedin). and Falconer (Otago) also remain in. Section 5. —Walker (Ponsonby), Ingram (Wellington), Buchanan (Green Inland) remain in. , . . Section 6.—Houldsworth (Te Hiwi) is unbeaten. Spiller (Sydenham) and Hong (Dunedin) remain in also. Section. 7— Foster (Caledonian) is unbeaten. Parsons (Ponsonby), and Woolf (United) also remain ill. Section B.—Bentley (Dunedin), Craig (Gisborne), and Leith (Caledonian) remain in. Section 9.—'Tait (Taieri) is unbeaten. M'Millan (Reniueni) and Seddon (St. Clair'* also remain in. Harraway put up what is believed to be a Dominion record. Playing against; Longworth (St'. Clair), he scored 44 to 6. Not till the fourteenth head was reached did Longworth score, when lie put on a single, Harraway being then 39.
