BRITISH PUBLIC ASKED NOT TO SHOOT PIGEONS. Tho London Magistrates recently received an important letter calling attention to the fact that tho Home Secretary has received a representation from Lord French to the effect that a considerable number of cases have _ recently been reported of the shooting of earner and homing pigeons by members of the public. Pigeons, it is pointed out, are being largely used by the naval and military authorities for the conveyance of messages, and tho shooting of birds carrying_ important messages may have very uerious consequences. For example, (luring September two pigeons were shot n-lien carrying messages from seaplanes in distress. Lord French hopes that the gravity of the offenco will be fully realised.
