MAIN BODY MEN ON FURLOUGH

APPLICATIONS' FOE EXTENSION OF LEAVE. . Consequent upon the cancellation of the proposed general leave for members of the Main Body, a number who wished to return to New Zealand for urgent business or family reasons wero invited to apply for permission to return. This was duly granted to a small group, while the others were informed- that future arrangements would probably be nlade to' give them furlough at a" later date. The first party recently' arrived in New Zca-, land, and having been led lo anticipate some tivo or three months' furlough in New Zealand were very disappointed at receiving. only threo weeks..

The New Zealand Returned Soldiers Association made inquiries on behalf of .these men, and it appears that tho authorities in England, had omitted to send details of the conditions upon which the members of tho party had returned. Consequently, _ until this information had been obtained, only tlm regulation three weeks' leavo pass could lie granted. The members of tho party have, however, since been notified'that thev should apply to the Director of Base Records for an extension of leavo sufficient to enable them to carrv out the nrivate matters for which they were allowed to return to New Zealand.
