Soldiers' Parcels. A member of the Lady Liverpool Committeo has received by last mail several letters from the front acknowledging receipt of gift parcels. The following quotations should prove, of interest, especially to those who work on aud for the Liverpool Committee;— "1 received a parcel through the company yesterday, and I thought it was up to nie to write and thank you for your kindness ill thinking sometimes of tho boys in far-off France. They appreciate tho spirit in which theso parcels are sent. 'Good luck, and safo return' is really a good wish. We all wish to come back soon and he with you all again in peaceful New Zealand. "I think that if you had seen the delight with which the parcels were received you would have felt to some extent repaid and gratified. We had a groat 'korero' on their arrival. I received a tin of Highlander milk, a tin of veal and ham, a tin of _ sweets, a tin of cigarettes, and a sanitary singlet, all wrapped up in a liico handkerchief, and all very useful, especially tho singlet, which is a tremendous aid to comfort. "The parcels arc well thought out ■and suit tho hoys, and wo wish to thank you very much for your good work." Y.W.C.A. Notes, Tho llcv. S. Beckingliam gave an address at the Y.W.C.A. on Thursday evening, when there was a large attendance. ilr. Beckingliam, who is a visitor to Wellington, gave an account of some of his experiences in Wales. Several Welsh songs were sung during tho evening, including the National Anthem. Tho Rev. J. H. Sykes will be the special speaker at tho Y.W.C.A. Club Rooms to-morrow at tho meeting at 4.15 p.m. All young women will bo very welcome. Miss Clarissa Spencer, who visited tho Y.AY.C.A. some years ago as tho World's Young Women's Christian Association representative, is olio of nino secretaries who have gone to Russia to work amongst the women who ara distressed by industrial conditions. In Russia wages are high at present, hut owing to tho scarcity of food and the high cost of living generally the purchasing power of money is very low. Miss Spencer is a linguist who has had experience as a worker amongst young women in several foreign countries.
The organisation of clubs in munition factories is affording an efficient means for the Y.W.C.A. to help to better the conditions of the girl workers. Sight is often lost of the multitudes of women who are employed in munition and other factories. In France the women who are working in very long' shifts sorely need such wholesome places of resort as the Y.W.C.A. affords. Mentioned in Dispatches. Dr. Mary Blair has been mentioned in General Milne's dispatch for service with the Salonika. Force. . She is _ a daughter of the former Engiueer-in-Chief in New: Zealand, and she studied at Victoria College and London University, where she graduated. She served for some time in Flander?, and two years ago went to Serbia in charge of a hospital unit for the Scottish Women's Hospitals. After the retreat she went to Ajaccio in charge of tho hospital for Serbian refugees. Mrs. L. Maclean, wife of the Rev. W. Maclcan, C.F., N.Z.E.F., has been mentioned in dispatches for her work at the County of Middlesex War Hospital, Napsbnry. Mrs. Maclean, who is a daughter of Mr. W. H. Ingram, of Invereargill, went to England in August, 1916, and shortly afterwards commenced work 111 Napsbury. Her husband was minister at Somervell Mcnir orial Presbyterian Church at Roir.uera, and has been with tho N.Z.E.F. since moving from Egypt to France. lie lately joined the New Zealand Discharge Depot at Torquay.
Mrs. Hall-Thompson acknowledges with thanks £2 sent to her for tho Naval Comforts Fund, tho result of the tennis tournament held hy the Heretaunga Golf Club.
Mrs. John Farrell and Mrs. Wm. Green (wifo of tho leading baritone of the "You're in Lovo" Company), are at presont in Wellington.
Lieutenn.nt-Colonel C. F. D. Cook, D.S.<"|., Wellington was married at St. Luke's Church, Heading, on November 21, to Agneta Mary Haynes. The bridegroom is the eldest son of the late Professor C. H. li. Cook, M.A., of Christchurch, New Zealand (one time Fellow of St. John's College, Cambridge), and Mrs. Cook, of Marton, New Zealand. 'Hie brido is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Haynes, 11 Victoria Square, Reading. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. J. Scully, M.A., vicar of South Creake, Norfolk, uncle of tho. bride, assisted by tho Rev. F. J. Howard, M.A., vicar of St. Luke's, Reading.

Plowman, A.K.R.U., who is seconded for duty to Now Zealand. Sister Al. U. Wilkie, R.R.C. (Dunedin), wno ivas married a few weeks ago to Major J. Hargest, M.C., li<is been discharged at her own request from the N.Z.A.N.S. ,Sister C. Giubon (Kim-ton), another of the first lilty nurses to have been sent, away from New Zealand, has also been discharged on her marriage to Captain T. Fergus, N.Z.M.O. Staff-Nurse 1). Al. .Reynolds (J)uiiedin), who lias been on tho stalt' of No. 2 New Zealand General Hospital at Walton, has been granted her discharge from the N.Z.A.N.S. She received her training at St. Thomas's Hospital. Miss Margaret Thomson (Clinton), after completing two years in charge of ono of tho nurses' homes at tho No. 2 New Zealand General Hospital at Walton, lias now been appointed to take charge of the' Entertainments Department of tho War Contingent Associa.tion m Southampton Row. Her sister, Miss J. Thompson, who has had charge ol tho other nurses' home sinco the opening of the hospital, remains in that position. She was mentioned in dispatches last month. Sister Mary Sutherland, N.Z.A.N.S. (Auckland), who served for some time with tho Stationary Hospital in France, is now on the stalf of No. 2 New Zealand General Hospital at Walton. Her sistor, Miss H. Sutherland, is attached to a British hospital in Alexandra. Miss Mary Gilkes, Q.A.1.M.N.5.R., (Ohristchurch), lias returned to London from l'l-ance, and will leave for New Zealand at the earliest opportunity. Miss Gilkes has been on duty successively at the No. 1 and No. '2 General Hospitals during the last six months. She was granted nine months' leave from New Zealand, and her time has now expired.
Mrs. Boyle and Mr. J. A. Flesher have been appointed delegates to represent North Canterbury on the New Zealand Red Cross Council, which meets in Cliristcliurch on February G. Mr. A. E. G. Rhodes lias been appointed by tho St. John Ambulance Association.
