A TRAITOR TO THE ALLIES
CAILLAUX ARRESTED EX-PREMIER INVOLVED IN INTRIGUE EXPOSED BY ITALY Paris, January 15. The arrest of M. Caillaux, ox-Pre-lr.ier, against whom a prosecution ior treason has been pending lor some weeks, has caused a sensation in the city. It is understood that tho. Italian Government forwarded to Paris important documents found in a safe at Florence rented in the :iame of Renoutud, the name under which M. Caillaux travelled in Italy. Baron Sonnino, the Italian Foreign Minister, forwarded tho documents to M. Clemenceau, the French Premier, who will publish them shortly.—"Tho Times." A Bill was introduced in tho French. Chamber of Deputies in Decomber jmpeaching M. Caillaux, who will be indicted before a court-martial on a charge of treason. M. Caillaux was Premier of Franco at tho time of tho dispute with Germany over the Agadir incident, in connection with which his conduct was much criticised. His iian-e has also been associated with the charges against M. Malvy, formerly Minister for the Interior, who has been • accused of handing to Germany plans I for the defence of the Chermn des I Dames. Recently tho Italian Govern- • rcent was said to ho stirred in the ! highest degree by the charge against' l M. Caillaux of carrying on a campaign in Rome in favour of an agreement between Italy, Germany, and France against England and Russia. ■Representatives of the two last-named Governments acquainted the Italian Government of what was occurring. Baron Sonnino intimated his desire to be relipycd of the necessity of expelling M. Caillaux from Italy.
