TROTSKY ARGUES WITH THE GERMAN MINISTERS

BRITISH TRADE UNIONS' VIEW OF RUSSIA BRITAIN AND FRANCE ON THE DEFENSIVE The only item of importance- from the Western front to-day is the report of a big and successful air raid in the Rhine Valley and the bombing of the city of Karlsruhe with considerable effect. Successful operations and a "bag" of prisoners are reporte from the British-Italian front. The situation in Hiiesia is no worse— and no better. Trotsky has beeh bargaining with the German peaco mission at Brest Litovsk, but the meeting produced nothing. A fine inspiring note was struck by Sir Auckland Geddes (DirectorGeneral of National Service) in introducing the new Man-Power ■ Bill in tho House of Commons. The most important declaration in the speech was the reference to the present role of the FrancoBritish Armies in the war—till America has developed her strength in the West, the French'and the British are to act on tho defensive.
