SIR ERNEST SHACKLETON
EXPLORERS HONOURED. News has reached Wellington that Sir Ernest Shackleton has been sent to South America by the Imperial Government on special duty. Sir Ernest j visited several of the South American j States after his return from the Wed-! dell Sea in 1916, nnd it was stated ! then that he had proved the most popu-1 lar and influential representative the | Empire could have had in countries where German influence was still at work. ' News has been received that Captain J. R. Stenhouse, who was in charge of Shackleton's ship Aurora, and who received the D.S.O. for submarine work, lias again been mentioned in dispatches, and is now in command of one of His Majesty's ships, and Thompson, who was with Stenhouse on the Aurora, is his first lieutenant. Captain F. tV. AVorsley, of New Zealand, who was with Sir Ernest Shackleton in the AVeddell Sea, and came with him to this country to assist in the re- ■ lief of the Ross Sea party, has also been awarded the D.S.O. under circum- • stances already stated Dominion.
