OVERSEA MAILS

MONK INFORMATION DESIRED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christ Church, January io. A great deal of inconvenience is caused to business peoplo and others in the DominiDn liv the censorship regu-, lation which forbids the publication of any information regarding the arrival and departure of oversea mails. In Australia a. less tight rein is kept on tho censorship, and tho newspapers-, there regularly announce arrivals or departures as' long as three or four days ahead of tho expected event. The matter was brought to the notice of Sir Joseph Ward, and in reply he said be had been considering tho matter during the last day or so. lersonally he could see no reason at all why in New Zealand the same procedure should not Iμ followed as in Australia, but he pointed out that theregulations controlling the censorshiphero wore in tho hands of the Defence Department. He realised that longer notice of tho arrival and departure of mails would bo of benefit to the publicgenerally, and if Australia could give, it without danger ho thought we could do so here, lie- bad already made tip his mind to eommimicato with the Minister of Defence on the matter and bring it before Cabinet, and lie believed that a change Chat would be satisfactory to all concerned could be made.
