London, January Tho Admiralty changes include the promotion of Mr. Charles Mere, an electrical consulting engineer, as an unpaid Director of Experiments and Re-search.-An 6.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

Mr. Merz is regarded as one of the most advanced men in England. In addition to the distinguished work he has done in Great Britain, Mr.. Mew has also been retained to advise in connection with a number of traction, water-power and other electrical proposals in Europe, America, and other parts of tho world. In 1907 he was appointed by tho Commissioners of tho Victorian, Government to make a report upon tho electrification of the Melbourne suburban railway system, involving some 250 miles of track, and visited Australia for this purpose. While he was there the Government also asked him to report upon tho development of the power resources of tho Btnto of Victoria, and he investigated fully the respective merits of producing electricity from the water powers of the colony and from the coalfields.
