Y.W.C.A. Notes. Mrs. Albert Kaye, of Christelnirch, jvas at the Y.W.O.A. yesterday evening, when a welcome tea was given to Miss Birch. Occasion was taken to hear about the remarkable work of the National Young Women's Christian Association of America in relation to the war. Y.W.G.A. representatives have acted on the assumption that it is quite as much the duty of any organisation claiming to do work with girls to provide a war serried plan for girls as it is the duty of the Government to provide camps 111 which men may train for service. A group of notable women met the members of the Y.AV.C.A. National Board, and voted a budget of four million: dollars to be raised in two months to carry 011 the work of the War Council by means of hostess houses in the military training camps which have been erected at the request of the Government by the Young Women's Christian Association to serve as the one centre of home life to all the men of the camps; the money will also be used for emergency housing of girls employed in military :l.nd industrial centres; for work in Europe to establish canteens and lunch-rooms and initiate industrial clubs for the and jtnderfed women of Russia and France, for assisting non-English-speaking women'visiting camps by foreign language service bureaux, refugee bureaux, etc., and a bureau of social speakers to give mothers and girls instruction in sex education which will hold them to safe social standards in war-time. Experience shows that unexpected, demands and opportunities are arising' constantly. Loading Y.W.C.A.' secretaries have been commandeered by the president of the National Board from a number of'the city associations in the Eastel'n States ft.-r raising the necessary funds, and amongst'these are Miss Esther S. Anderson and Mjss Helen F. Barnes, both of whom have been visitors to New Zealand in the interests of the Y.W.O.Av Social Hygiene Committee, A meeting of the Social Hygicno Committee was held on Thursday alternoon at Lady Stout's house on.tliu Terrace, Lady Stout presiding. A number of matters were discussed, and correspondence dealt with from ditterent parts of the Dominion. A letter had been sent to the Minister of Public Health asking if the Government would add a subsidy to. the money voted by the Hospital Board for the establishment of free clinics for the treatment of venereal diseases. ■ A reply was re ceived from the Minister to the effect that nothing could bo done until the regulations under the Social Hygieno Bill had been gazetted. A letter writ, ten by Miss Bout and published recently in the "Times" was read, and tiie following resolution was passed, to be forwarded to the Government '•This meeting desires to record its firm conviction that a medical club, working on the lines suggested by 1 . . f Rout, is not in accordance with the best medical evidence available, and should not bo supported : Md that the appeal for funds to establish a club tof the sale of prophylactics to Now Zealaud soldiers is received with abhorrence by this .committee, who desire to express their opinion that Miss Ron, should bo removed from any position ot authority with regard to New Zealand soldiers w England; and that the Government be requested to repudiate her action in connection with this matter."
