Messrs. Dalgety and Company. Limited, report having held their first Bale of the New Year at the Upper Hutt on Thursday, when they offered a small yarding of sheep and a good entry of cattle. Tho demand for all classes of sheep was poor and priceß low, but cattle met wifh a ready sale. Pat and forward wethers, 255, lOd. to 265.; light, fat cows, £9 to £12; forward cqjvs, to £8 155.; empty heifers to £8 125.; sprigiug heifers, £10 to £11 55.; cows in milk to £12; heifers with calves, £7 10s.; potter bulls, to £14. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Palmerston North, report having a small entry of stock at their Palmei'Bton Kjrth Bale on Thursday, January 10. Bidding was not at all keen for cattle, and several lines failed to change hands. Aged store ewes, Bs.; empty stores, 13s. lid.; backward cowb and calves, £4; mixed weancrs, £2. Messrs. Abraham ami Williams, Ltd., report;—At Joiinsonville on January 9 we had a fairly good yarding of both sheep and cattle. Fat stock were in fair demand, and sold fairly well. Stores were on the whole rather slack, and buyers were operating cautiously. Business was transacted at the following rates:— Prime fat wethers, 345.; fat ewes, 295, to 295. od.; fat and forward wethers, 30b. to 30s. 6d.; fat ewes and wethers (mixed), 3fls.; fat and forward ewes, 275.; 4-tooth wethers, 30s. 6d.; 2-tooth wethers; 25b. 10d.; aged fat rams. 255.; aged storo ewes, 13s. 6d.; light fat cows and heifers, £12 to £12 10s.; forward cows, £10 10s. to £11; fresh conditioned cowb, £8 sb. to £9; small store cows, £7; bulls, £10 to £12 10s.- vealers and runners, £2 to £4 10s. The next sale will be Ijeld on February 6, 1918.
