AMOKURA'S DUAL HEAD. QUARTERS
AUCKLAND REQUEST GRANTED.
By Tolegraph-Press Association. Auckland, January 10. A request that Auckland should be made the headquarters of the trainingship Amokura for a portion of each vear was matin to the Hon. T. M. Wilford by a deputation representing yachtsmen and launch-owners. The Minister said that he recognised tho facilities possessed by Auckland Harbour for training purposes, and would <rivo instructions that tho Amokura. should be stationed at Auckland for a certain number of months in oach year. Mr. Wilford remarked that there wore far more applications for admission lo the Amokura than could b< , dealt with. These were, receiver] from New Zealand vouths desirous of following a seafaring life. The Government recognised the necessity for providing nioro adequate facilities, but the question was one of finance. Tim Marino Department was mi the look out for a large modern vessel snibblr* for training purposes, but a vessel of the typo required would bo very expensivo at present.
