The appointment of Miss Mabel Eunice Kent to be a shorthand reporter under tho Shorthand Reporters Act is gazetted. The resignation of Mr. A. T. Cnvell, of Hastings, from the Commission of tho Peace is gazetted.

The Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration has been awarded to Bishop Sadlior, of Nelson, Chaplain to tho Forces (Second Class). Mr. Joha Myers, of tho firm of Messrs. J. Myers and Co., recently left on a biwkoss trip to Japan.

Dr. G. E. .Morrison, who has for many years held the most important position of official adviser to the Government of China, is to arrive in New Zealand at Bluff on January 17, leaving this country at Auckland on February 11. Ho will bo in Wellington from January 26 to 29. In Australia he has delivered addresses in which he has urged that it should be tho object of the Commonwealth to_ open up commercial relations with China. ■

Mr. M. Foley, who loft Mastorton yesterday to take tip tho position of Clerk of the Court at Napier, was given a hearty farewell, prior to his departure, by tho Bench and Bar of Masterton. There was a large gathering ■of Justices of the Peace and members of the legal profession. Mr. W. Kerr, S.M., who presided, made the presentation.
