SPLIT IN THE REICHSTAG MAJORITY AVOIDED. London, January 8. The "Morning Post's" Amsterdam correspondent states that Count von Hertling, Imperial Chancellor, summoned the .party leaders, who expressed anxiety at the gravity of the internal situation. Count von Hertliiiß talked them over, and so avoided the threatened split in the Reichstag majority. The result is that military and annexationist influences have not been removed from the negotiations.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
KDHLMANN'S POSITION UNTENABLE. (Ree. January 9, 11.55 p.m.) Amsterdam, January 9. Berlin telegrams stato that although tho Brest Litovsk conference continues, the position of Dr. von Kuhlmann, Foreign Minister, is considered to bo untenable. Ho lias lost favour with the Kaiser, Von Hindonburg, and the General Staff. His resignation is probable.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
