A THIRD BRITISH OFFENSIVE
AN ENEMY FORCE. CAPTURED
Washington, January 8. Official advices state that the British have started a third offensive against the Turks, and have captured the entire enemy's force and armament at Mainda, in Arabia, in the vicinity of Shahin.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. A TURKJSJKLAIM AND ITS REFUTATION. (Rec. January 9, 11.55 p.m.) Amsterdam, January 9. A Turkish official communique states: —"It is reported from Yemen that our troops near Aden continue their enterprises, and that safety prevails in the wholo of the, Arabian provinces. An English effort to land near Hodaida failed, since when the coasting trade has been uninterrupted."
The Press Bureau comments:—"The Turkish Yemen garrisons have long been cut off from the outside world The Hodaida inoident probably refers to a successful raid by Red Sea patrol enips on Juno 12, when a small landing party captured an entire Turkish post of a hundred men, two mountain guns, and three machine-guns."—Aus.* ,V.Z.
