THE DEADLY PEA EIPLB.

Mr. W. G. Riddcll, S.M., held an inquest yesterday afternoon into the circumstances attending the death of Eric Thomas AVillson Boyes, a member of tho Northland troop "of Boy Scouts, who-was shot with a pea rifle accidentally discharged by another Scout at Waikanao on Boxing Day, and who died in the Wellington Hospital on January 4, After hearing the evidence and commenting on the danger of having a loaded gun amongst boys, the- Coroner, said tho shooting was no, doubt accidental. All tho evidence pointed in that direction. Tho verdict would bo that Eric Boyes died from the effects of a bullet wound accidentally received at' Waikanae'.

A DUNTISTS DEATH.

Christchuroh, January 8. An inquest was held on tho body of the late Marmaduke George Wallieh, the well-known Christchurch dentist, today. Tho evidence showed deceased had been in bad health for some time past, and had been suffering from insomnia. The doctor was called this afternoon and found him suffering from tho effects of poisoning caused by sleoping draught and aggravated by chronic kidney disease. A verdict in accordance with the doctor's evidence was returned.

Alfred Ansell, aged 11 years, of 33 Avu Street, Petone, was admitted _ to the Hospital late on Monday night suffering from a badly fractured arm. Latest reports state that it is feared he will be unable to use his arm again.

Both the recent race meetings in Taranaki have been attended by fatal accidents. On the way back to Opunako after the New Plymouth races a car capsized, and one of tho passengers received injuries from which he succumbed. A week later a car met trouble on its way back to New Plymouth from tho Stratford races, and the injuries received by one of tho occupants proved fatal. In addition, there were numerous minor mishaps.
