Owinp to tho increased rate or taxation, the beer duty collected , in 1917 -was £30,540 10s. 4a., to £10,311 12s. 5d., against -£6346 12a. 4d. for the last quarter of -916. For the year ended December 31, 1917. the net Customs duties aggregated £478.961 9s. 7d., whereas in 1916 they totalled £567,579 11s. The Deer duly collected in 1917 was £30,450 10s. 4d., against £24.089 7s. Bd. for 19'6. On Saturday an examination was made of the tanke of the Ngaheve to sec if buo had sustained any damage when sho touched a, rock at Sinclair , Head a week ago. The examination revealed no damage. Tho vessel will therefore sail at noon to-day for Greymouth to load coal for Wellington.
