Desert Gold will ony compete -in weight, for-ago races, mid will carry silk in Melbourne and Sydney, enyaceineute being made for lior at Uaullieid, Pleuiington, and Raudwick. So much has been written about Mr. Lowry's phenomenal mare that Australian sportsmen are looking forward with tho keenest interest to see her in action, and her presence on the Australian racecourses is sure to' attract large attendances. New Zealanders also will await with interest the result of her meeting with tho Australian cracks, which interest will considerably be added to by tho fact that the maro will be putting forth her best energies for patriotic purposes. In deciding to send Desert Gold across, llr. Lowry made the oiler to Jtrs. Lowry that the net profits of any moneys the mare might win should bn devoted to some of the patriotic funds she was interested in, and on Mrs. Lowry's suggestion Desert Gold \iill race for money to endow six beds in the Soldiers Hospital to be erected at Napier and eix beds in the Rotorua Hospital. It is Mrs. Lowry's intention that these beds should be endowed for all time, and tf not required for wounded soldiers that they be available for trainers and jockeys in need of assistance. Both Mr. and Mrs. Lowry have been hard workers for the various patriotic funds established since the waj started, and their latest action only adds another item to tho long list of their generous bequests. Under the circumstances tho career of Desert Gold in Australia will be watched with intense interest by all sections of the community throughout tho Dominion.
