THE MOTUIHI INQUIRY

REPORT BEADY FOR CABINET. It is understood that the Military Court of Inquiry which conducted the recent inquiry regarding the eacape of German prisoners from Motuihi Island has completed its report. Tho report is a military document, which does not go to the Governor-General as the report of a Royal Commission would do. The inquiry was conducted under the King's Regulations. The New Zealand Defence Act provides for courts of inquiry in cases where officers are charged with some offence.) but no charge against an individual was made at the time when the inquiry into the Motuihi escape was undertaken. The report will be laid before Cabinet' by the Minister of Defence.
