APATHY! WHY?
Sir—l notice . that the_ police <'f Auckland havu once again demonstrated their determination to suppress bookmakino! by the large batcb of bookmakers which they had paraded before the Court in Auckland to-day, ami whose fines aggregated the handsometotal of £685.' . . In view of the activity of the detectives and police in the northern districts and the apathy of-the police ana detectives in Wellington districts, I think the time has arrived when the Commissioner should seriously consider the position. Some time ago the members of Parliament discussed this question in the House, o.nd one member went so far as to even name certain bookmakers and their telephone numbers) and although the expressions of one particular member created a great deal of_ interest throughout the country it is remarKable that nothing has been done by our local detectives and police, and as a citizen of Wellington who has noticed the activity of the bookmakers during the past week's carnival. I ask ine Commissioner, Why?-I am, etc. ALBlli.
