WAR SAVING FOR THE CHILDREN.

PERMITS FOR WAR CERTIFICATE STAMPS. A method has been devised whereby every child in the State may do his or hor part in the war, and at the same time save a nice little nest-egg in hard cash against the time when he—or slie—will know how best to expend it. This is by means of saving their'pennies until they have enough to buy a shilling stamp, which is to be attached to a form which provides spaces for sixteen stamps. On presenting the slip to any post olhce they will be able to obtain a war certificate which will in five years' time have a faco value of £1. The scheme is being especially .recommended to-school children, through the medium of their teachers._ the following is a ropy of the circularletter' which has been issued to all teachers by the Minister of Finance :— "Sir (or Madam),—l realise that the aid I received from the teachers m August last was of vory great value. Not only were many certificates sold to children, but they received a va liable lesson in the possibility oHielpinrr tlio State by their, individual •efforts. For the furtherance of the sale of War Loan Certificates I have issued a small folder, of which- I am sending you a supply. On this the prico of a five-year 'certificate may be saved in stamps. May I again ask vour assistance in helping to raise the further sum required .to_ sustain our small but valiant army m the lielUi'l Children receive many money presents in the holiday soasnn. They will willingly, if so advised by their teachers set aside a portion and lend it to the State. It will bo a training in solf-dcnial and self-reliance which will make each of them a better citizen m the days to come. The cause is the cause of our young nation; it is the cause of our Empire and also of our race. It is your cause and mine; yet without individual effort wo would be powerless. But cnclv will do Ins lutv, and we shall win. r loiu faithfully. J. G. WARD, Minister of Finance." _______
