Nominations for races to be decided at. the Nelson Trotting Club's Annual Meeting close with the' secretary ,at Nelson on January 10. According to . the latest "Referee" to hand. G. Jones, the trainer of fiasanof, had the mount on the Martian 'gelding in the Summer Oup. Jones, whose, headquarters are at Hastings, was called in the last ballot, and tho leave granted by the military authorities was due to expire at the beginning of the present mouth. Jones,. according to the paper quoted above, was leaving his team—Kteanof, Sweet Corn, and Blended—in charge of J. Whitworth at Eandwick. The Malstor horse Bimeter was an acceptor in the Carrington Stakes, six furlongs, at Tattersall's Meeting on Saturday last. The black horse received 9st. 31b„ and raced in tlie colours of his new owner (Mr. E. Lo Boy). The ovent was won by Tho Welkin horso Oolugo, who carried 9st. 41b. Bimetjr failed to get a place. Lady Bonitorm, by Boniform—Ti'emor, filled third place in the Grandst and Stakes, run at Itandwiok on December 22. The progeny of Wallace, who was lately destroyed, had won up to July 31, 1917, £221,078 in stakes, , and had scored in 743 races. Dingle, who won tho Stratford Cup, has been yery consistent this season, running Becond to Nobleman at Waverley, winning a hack race at Feilding, scoring' in a welter race at New Plymouth, and finally winning the Stratford Cup.' .Belair, who was purchased at the Karamu sale by J.-M'Combe, of Eiccarton, has proved to be a good purchase, having wqn races at the Wyndham and Southland meetings. Belair was secured by his new owner for 520 guineas. Speedwell Max, by Lupin, who won the Hurdles at the Stratford Meeting, paid a sensational dividend. It was the first, win the mare has had for some considerable time.
The horse that carried tho most weight to victory in the. A.E.O. Handicap was All Eed, who won with. 9st. 111b. on his back in 1909. Warstep also carried 9at. 111b. to victory in the C.J.O. Great Autumu Handicap in 1916, both races being run over a distance of one mile and a half. The ■ performance of Desert Gold in' running third in the A.E.O. Handicap with lOst. lib. on her back must bo considered all the more meritorious. Advance carried lOst. 41b. when he won the Wellington Cup in 1903, tbo distance being the' same as the first-mentioned races. A PreßS Association message from Sydneyl.
