FOOD DISTRIBUTION SCHEME
% ABOLISHING QUEUES. London, January 1. The newspapers give prominence to and approve a memorandum by Lord Rhondda, the Food Controller, to the local food committees, outlining a model scheme for the distribution of butter, margarine, and tea, to provnnt the necessity of forming queues. Tho essential feature of the scheme is that every customer shall register at 0110 shop for the purchase of certain foodstuffs, which lie will not be allowed fo buy elsewhere. The shopkeeoer will be required to divide his weekly supplies in fair proportion among tho registered customers, and no shopkeeper will he allowed to register mors customers than he can conveniently serve. Tho London committees will probably meet 011 Wednesday to discuss the scheme. Lord Rhondda suggests as a basis for rations four ounces of butter or margarine, one and a half ounces tea, and half a pound of sugar a week.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
